Municipal band to start summer schedule
The Marshalltown Municipal Band is ready to go for another full summer of regular weekly concerts beginning Thursday at the Marshall County Courthouse square.
The band is full of community members both young and old who play for the love of the music. It is directed by Meghan Schumacker, the band’s leader since 2010.
The weekly courthouse square performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
Other special performances this summer include the Fourth of July concert and the July 11 concert during the Central Iowa Fair.
“Some of the members of the band have been playing a long time and it has a long tradition in Marshalltown,” said Chad Weir, recreation superintendent with Marshalltown Parks and Recreation. “We get a lot of compliments from people who love having the band out there on Thursday nights.”
Weir said the Main Street Farmers Market has given the band added exposure in recent years. For more information on the band, call Parks and Recreation at 641-754-5715.
