PREP BASEBALL: STC’s Doyle, BCLUW’s Lutes throw no-nos

REINBECK – South Tama sophomore Dalton Doyle struck out 12 in a no-hitter and the Trojans defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck 2-1 in NICL West Division baseball here Friday night.

Doyle had a perfect game until issuing a two-out walk in the fourth, leading to Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s only run after an error.

For the game Doyle allowed just the one walk, throwing 70 of his 97 pitches for strikes. He only went to ball three that one time, and STC’s defense made just two errors behind him.

The Trojans (6-1, 3-0) got both of their runs in the third. Colson Frakes walked, Kolton Smith tripled and Kaleb Davenport doubled to account for all the offense Doyle would need.

Grant Koch finished 2-for-4 as well for STC.

Joe Zimmerman took the loss for the Rebels. He allowed five hits, four walks and a hit batsman while striking out seven.

BCLUW 8, South Hardin 0

ELDORA – BCLUW’s Tyler Lutes struck out 18 in a no-hitter and South Hardin committed seven errors during an North Iowa Cedar League West Division clash Friday.

Lutes also walked four in the win as the Comets improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Isaac Novak had three hits to lead the Comets at the plate, while Lane Caster and Max Callaway both had two hits. Conner Ubben added two RBIs in the win as BCLUW plated two in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh. The Comets finished with nine hits and committed no errors in the field.

Sam Shindelar threw the complete game for South Hardin as he allowed just two earned runs while striking out 10 and walking four.

West Marshall 7, East Marshall 2

GILMAN – Nick Sinning struck out nine and allowed just three hits and three walks in the Trojans’ win over their cross county rivals.

West Marshall put up multiple runs in the second, third and sixth innings, collected nine hits in the victory and improved to 3-0 in NICL West action.

Neither of the two runs given up by Sinning were earned as he pitched around two Trojan errors.

Sinning also led West Marshall (5-2) at the plate with three hits and three RBIs, while Jacob Pszanka had two hits, two runs and one RBI. Jared Johnson also had two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Nick Long took the loss for the Mustangs as he allowed four runs on six hits and struck out three in four innings. East Marshall’s three hits were collected by Caleb Benzing, Ryan Puumala and Adam Puumala. Benzing had an RBI and Adam Puumala and pinch-runner Dru Boliver scored the two runs.

North Tama 16, GMG 1, 5 innings

TRAER – The Redhawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one inning and never looked back in an easy five-inning win over the Wolverines.

Josh Raymond took the loss for GMG, which drops to 0-8 on the season and 0-3 in Iowa Star Conference action. Raymond allowed six runs in one inning on the mound and also got the Wolverines’ only hit at the plate. Brandon Weitzell scored GMG’s only run on a passed ball.

The Redhawks (9-4) have now won five of seven.
