College chancellor gets $7,150 raise
GRINNELL – Iowa Valley Community College District Chancellor Chris Duree will begin earning his new annual salary of $172,148 on July 1.
The Iowa Valley board approved a $7,150 raise for Duree for the next fiscal year at a board meeting in Grinnell Wednesday. Duree’s three-year rolling contract was also extended to June 30, 2016.
Duree oversees the entire Iowa Valley district which includes Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls and Iowa Valley Grinnell.
Duree, a State Center resident, has led the college district for three years and moved up from provost of MCC after the resignation of former chancellor Tim Wynes.
“I am pleased with the progress we are making at Iowa Valley,” Duree said. “I’m very fortunate to have a very good team of people around me. We still have work to do.”
Iowa Valley Board President Conrad Dejardin said Duree’s raise has been earned.
“He’s done an excellent job,” said Dejardin, who was not present at the meeting Wednesday. “The board is very pleased with his performance.”
College district non-faculty staff also received a 3.93 percent salary package increase for the 2013-14 fiscal year in a measure approved by the board Wednesday. The faculty contract is expected to be approved at a later meeting at the same raise rate.
“It’s reasonable and equitable to what we anticipate having with the faculty,” Duree said of the college staff raise.
The next regular meeting of the college board will be at 4 p.m. July 10 at college district offices in Marshalltown.
