PREP BASEBALL: Sinning strikes out 12, West Marshall blanks G-R

REINBECK – Nolan Sinning fanned 12 batters in a complete-game, three-hit shutout as the West Marshall baseball team blanked Gladbrook-Reinbeck 5-0 Monday.

The Trojans (10-3, 7-0) maintained their perch atop the NICL West division claiming their sixth win in seven games. Jared Johnson hit 2-for-4 with a two-run double, while Garrett Nichols (1-for-3) added a two-run single, and Dylan Petermeier (2-for-4) scored a run. West Marshall tallied four runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth.

Brady Kuehl surrendered five runs on five hits and five walks. He fanned three in six innings as the Rebels (4-5, 4-4) were held scoreless for the first time this season. Camden Kickbush, Joe Zimmerman and Phillip Zimmerman accounted for all three of G-R’s hits.

West Marshall hosts South Hardin tonight at 6 p.m., while the Rebels travel to Grundy Center this evening.

East Marshall 21, BCLUW 10

GILMAN – Josh Wilson hit a grand slam and totaled seven RBIs as East Marshall needed just four innings to score 21 runs, racking up a 21-10, five-ining victory over BCLUW in NICL West Division baseball Monday.

The Mustangs (7-11, 6-2) struck for four runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second and eight in both the third and fourth. Josh Benzing finished off his relief stint on the mound with a scoreless top of the fifth to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Wilson went 2-for-2 at the plate, driving in two runs with a single, another run with a bases-loaded walk and a grand slam in the Mustangs’ eight-run third.

Nate DeBondt finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Benzing went 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs. Ryan Puumala was 1-for-3 with three runs scored, while Nick Mommer was 1-for-2 with a double, a run and three RBIs. Austin Briney got the win for the Mustangs, while BCLUW pitching issued 18 total walks.
