Marshalltown man killed in motorcycle crash
A motorcycle crash killed a Marshalltown man and injured his passenger late Monday night.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Matthew Lavender, 33, and April Stanley, 32, both of Marshalltown, were driving 2 miles north of Marshalltown on Highway 14, half a mile north of Garwin Road, just before midnight.
The report shows Lavender was headed northbound when the motorcycle left the roadway and entered the right ditch. It traveled through the ditch and turned sideways before rolling several times. Lavender and Stanley were both ejected off the bike, according to the report.
The state medical examiner pronounced Lavender dead on scene, and paramedics transported Stanley to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center where she was treated for minor injuries.
Marshall County Chief Deputy Burt Tecklenburg responded to the crash, assisting the state patrol. He said neither of the passengers were wearing helmet but Stanley was conscious and able to speak following the crash.
MMSC listed Stanley in good condition Tuesday afternoon.
The state patrol will continue to investigate the crash.
