NICL BASEBALL: Trojans remain unbeaten in NICL West Division play

STATE CENTER – An 11-run first inning pushed the West Marshall baseball team past South Hardin on Tuesday night and helped the Trojans improve to 8-0 in North Iowa Cedar League West Division play.

The Trojans were the beneficiaries of 12 walks and five South Hardin errors in the win.

Dylan Petermeier got the win on the mound and had two hits and two runs at the plate.

Petermeier allowed just one hit and one earned run in three innings as the starting pitcher and also fanned four and walked two.

Justin Weitzell also had two hits, two runs and two RBIs as West Marshall moved to 11-3 on the season. Garrett Nichols added a hit, one run and four RBIs and Ross Randall pitched in one hit, two runs and two RBIs.

Ryan Mossman took the loss for South Hardin.

West Marshall hosts Lynnville-Sully in a junior varsity-varsity doubleheader Thursday. The varsity game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

South Hardin hosts Grundy Center in a varsity doubleheader Friday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

South Tama County 8, BCLUW 0

BEAMAN – Two big innings for the South Tama County baseball team was enough for the Trojans to remain unbeaten in conference play Tuesday night.

STC scored four runs in the second and three more in the fifth during an 8-0 win over NICL West rival BCLUW.

Dalton Doyle went the distance for South Tama and struck out 11 in the victory. He also had two of the Trojans’ 11 hits in the victory. Grant Koch led the offense with three hits, while Clay Waterbury and Colson Frakes also had two hits.

Kaleb Davenport’s lone hit was a three-run double in the four-run second inning. Eight different hitters scored a run for the Trojans.

BCLUW (4-9 overall, 3-6 in NICL West) had four hits in the loss, two of which came from Isaac Novak. Lane Caster and Tyler Lutes also singled for the Comets.

Conner Ubben threw five innings and allowed nine hits and seven runs in the loss. Mitch Miller threw the final two innings and surrendered two hits and one run.

BCLUW travels to Gladbrook-Reinbeck for a varsity doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

South Tama County travels to East Marshall today before hosting the Mustangs on Thursday.

AGWSR 0, 5 innings

GILMAN – Nick Long’s four-hitter over five innings guided the Mustangs past the Cougars at home Tuesday night.

Long struck out seven and walked none as East Marshall plated six of its 10 runs in the third inning and added three more in the fifth to end the game early.

Nate DeBont had three hits, one run and one RBI to lead the offense, while Ryan Puumala had two hits, one run and one RBI.

Single hits were recorded by Caleb Benzing, Josh Wilson, Brock Pieters and Luke Svendsen. Benzing and Pieters each added two runs and two RBIs.

Dylan Heetland threw all five innings for the Cougars and took the loss on the mound.

East Marshall will host South Tama County tonight before heading to Tama to face the Trojans on Thursday.

AGWSR will next travel to South Hardin tonight.
