Amy & Adams to perform local show Saturday

The busy tour schedule of the folk musical duo Amy & Adams will make a stop in Marshalltown this weekend.

A public performance will be held at 7 p.m Saturday at Hope United Methodist Church, 2203 S. Third Avenue, for the cost of a freewill donation.

The band features Amy Adams-Westin and Mark Adams-Westin who call their blend of music “Eclectic/FolkRock/TinPanAlley/BluesGrass.”

“We have so many influences and we enjoy so many styles,” Amy said.

The group has played several times in Marshalltown. Mark is a 1969 Marshalltown High School graduate.

“Marshalltown is where I grew up,” he said. “It’s home still.”

Mark plays the rhythm and lead guitar while Amy plays the 12-string guitar and keyboards. They both sing and harmonize together.

“It’s going to be all about having fun,” Mark said.

Prior to the church show, the duo will perform private shows for the residents of two assisted living centers in Marshalltown. They will play at 3 p.m. Friday at Villa Del Sol and at 2 p.m. Saturday at Southridge. These two performances are part of their Lights On series, which helps bring music to these places that maybe normally could not afford to fund performances.

The couple has seen residents in these types of facilities come alive during their shows.

“We know what the power of music is,” Mark said.

The couple plays several shows a week, primarily in the Midwest.

“It’s a wonderful experience and it’s a challenging experience,” Amy said.
