Roger L. Nason, 89, of Marshalltown, IA passed away, Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Internment with Military Honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, in Marshalltown, IA. Roger was born July 11, 1923, in Marshalltown, IA the son of Laru and Esther Nason. Roger was a 1941 graduate of the former VanCleve School. He was inducted into the United States Army in December of 1943. He served in the 82nd Airborne in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre of World War II. He was wounded in action in Holland on October 3, 1944. He was decorated with the Purple Heart for his wounds and also received a Bronze Star for his service. He was honorably discharged from service in April of 1945. He was united in marriage to Betty L. Olsen on February 28, 1946, in Marshalltown, IA. He worked as a farm hand on the family farm for eighteen years. He later worked in the repair and mechanical department of Southard Implement in Marshalltown, IA for over thirty years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #46 and a former member of the VFW. He loved working with his hands especially woodworking. He made many wooden pieces that he sold at craft shows. He used the money earned to purchase new saws for his craft. He and Betty also enjoyed their winters in Arizona where Roger spent much time taking part in the activities at the park where they stayed.

He will be missed by his wife, Betty Nason of Marshalltown, IA; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Bernice Duffy of Marshalltown, IA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Vivian Augustine and Elaine Henze.
