PREP BASEBALL: Bohner’s performance leads AGWSR to second straight

ACKLEY – After 12 straight losses, the AGWSR baseball team now has a winning streak.

The Cougars (5-16, 3-11) ended the long losing skid Tuesday against Hudson and then grabbed another victory Wednesday with a 3-2 win over NICL West Division foe BCLUW.

Clayton Bohner struck out 10 from the mound and also had a two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning that put the Cougars in front for good.

BCLUW (7-15, 5-9) went ahead in the fourth following Tyler Lutes’ two-out, two-run home run. Lutes fanned 13 on the mound in a losing cause.

Brandon Johnson had two of AGWSR’s five hits. Max Callaway had two of the Comets’ four hits.

The Comets will next travel to Zearing Friday to face Colo-NESCO. AGWSR hosts Jesup Friday.

South Tama 12, Gladbrook-Reinbeck 0, 5 innings

TAMA – Sam Kuhter struck out 10 and allowed only two hits and also went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Trojans improved to 13-3 in the NICL West with an easy win over the rival Rebels.

South Tama (17-7) plated three runs in the first, three more in the third and ended the game early with a five-run fourth frame.

Kuhter, Dalton Doyle and Nate Hala all had RBI singles in the first to give the Trojans a lead they would not relenquish. The Trojans went up 4-0 in the second following an RBI hit from Grant Koch.

Kuhter improved to 5-1 after the win. Doyle, Hala, and Kolton Smith all had two hits at the plate to support the victory. Smith, Doyle, Clay Waterbury and Colson Frakes all scored twice.

Jacob Smoldt doubled and Camden Kickbush singled to provide the Rebels (7-10, 7-7) with their only hits of the game.

GMG 15, CAL 4, 5 innings

ALEXANDER – The GMG baseball team put up crooked numbers in four of its five at-bats, beating CAL 15-4 in a five-inning Iowa Star Conference contest Wednesday.

Jacob Burt was the beneficiary of all the offense, going three innings on the mound for the win. He allowed three earned runs, walked six and struck out six. Noah Thurston tossed two innings of relief, allowing an unearned run with three walks and three strikeouts. The duo combined on a five-hitter.

Brandon Weitzell, Austin Vaughn, Bridger Claassen and Tyler Thurston each had two hits for the Wolverines (3-13, 3-6). Weitzell had an RBI and scored four times, Vaughn doubled, scored twice and drove in who, while both Claassen and Thurston were 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Tyler Krull chipped in a two-run double as well.

The Cadets (2-17) suffered their sixth straight loss. Juan Gomez led CAL with a 3-for-3 day at the plate that included a double and an RBI.
