Funeral home supports veterans with donations

Being a veteran himself, Jody Anderson, owner of Anderson Funeral Homes, feels supporting veterans is important.

His business has embarked on an initiative that will help boost the Marshalltown VFW Post 839 with their current building renovation project.

Anderson donated $500 initially then decided the business would donate $100 for each veteran they serve to the VFW project in the name of the veteran that passed away.

Anderson plans to continue this effort and hopes the community gets on board to help the VFW reach a $78,000 goal.

“I can tell you the donation will be substantial,” Anderson said.

The VFW is renovating the former Stucky’s Vacuum store at 107 E. Meadow Lane for its use. Laurel Phipps of the VFW is appreciative of the support of Anderson Funeral Homes.

“I think it’s great,” Phipps said. “He’s going to continue to follow through and we are going to need it.”

Anderson said the donation effort has received plenty of positive feedback on the Facebook page of the funeral home.

“It’s reassurance to me that this was the right way to make a donation,” Anderson said. “People are posting about how the veterans are important to us.”

Phipps said he hopes Anderson’s decision will lead to others in the community stepping forward to make a donation.

“It might show the way for other people,” Phipps said.

Those looking to help with donations can drop them off at Anderson Funeral Home at 405 W. Main St. in Marshalltown or call Phipps at 641-753-5157.
