PREP SOFTBALL: Cougars close regular season with rated win

ACKLEY – AGWSR sophomore Ashley Sicard tossed a one-hitter and homered as the Class 2A No. 8-ranked Cougars clubbed 10th-ranked Jesup 11-0 in four innings Friday night.

Sicard improved to 24-4 as she walked one and struck out eight in the win. At the plate she finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs.

Morgan Rose was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs, while Ella Frazier was 2-for-3 with a double. Marissa Roberts was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored, and Madi Fryslie had an RBI triple.

The Cougars (24-7) scored four times in the first inning, added three in the third and four more in the fourth to end the game early against Jesup (23-11). It was the regular-season finale for AGWSR.

Don Bosco 12, GMG 0, 4 innings

GILBERTVILLE – Class 1A No. 6 Don Bosco belted two home runs and senior Brittany Hickson pitched a one-hitter as the Dons defeated GMG 12-0 in a four-inning Iowa Star Conference contest Friday.

Hickson struck out nine, walked three and allowed a Caitlin Appelgate double as the only hit for GMG (2-16, 2-12). Hickson also hit one of her team’s home runs, finishing 3-for-3 with six RBIs. Kari Welter also homered for Don Bosco (29-8, 12-1), which won its 11th straight.

GMG starting pitcher Abbie Duden got the loss, allowing four runs – three earned – in one inning of work. She walked four.
