Marshalltown man stabs brother with steak knife

Police have arrested the brother of the man who was stabbed early Monday morning.

Capt. Chris Jones, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said the MPD arrested Mario Gonzalez, 26, shortly after 3 a.m. Mario allegedly stabbed his brother, Jorge Gonzalez, 19, with a steak knife at the brothers’ home on the 100 block of South Seventh Avenue.

Jones said the two had been arguing while out together. Once home, the argument continued escalating to violence, causing Mario to thrust the knife’s 3-to-4-inch blade under Jorge’s left arm.

First responders transported Jorge to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center following the attack for non-life threatening injuries.

Police charged Mario with aggravated domestic assault, an aggravated misdemeanor; willful injury, a Class C felony; and going armed with intent, a Class D felony. Jones also said Mario violated a no-contact order on Jorge, so he is being held without bond.

Jones said he does not anticipate any additional charges or arrests relating to the assault.

A call to MMSC to get an update on Jorge’s condition Monday afternoon went unreturned at press time.
