SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcats’ Harris ties for second place

FORT DODGE – Marshalltown High School junior-to-be Ashley Harris tied for second place at the Junior Tour Classic held Monday at Fort Dodge Country Club.

Harris shot a 13-over-par round of 84 to share runner-up honors in the girls’ 16-18 age division with Alexa Capesius of Livermore. Alexandra Mankle of Milford shot 77 for the top spot. Mankle was the fifth-place finisher in the Class 2A girls’ state golf tournament this past spring, while Capesius was the 1A medalist for Bishop Garrigan.

South Hardin graduate Cami Eller came in sixth with her round of 101.

MHS sophomore-to-be Brant McKibben placed 21st in the boys’ 14-15 division with his round of 94.

Nationwide pace car in town Friday

NEWTON – The official pace car of the Iowa Speedway will be in Marshalltown Friday ahead of being used for the NASCAR Nationwide Series’ U.S. Cellular 250 race.

The pace car will make its appearance this Friday at the U.S. Cellular store located at 901 S. Center St. in Marshalltown, and fans will have the opportunity to get a free photo taken with the car.

The Nationwide race is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton.
