Synergy, Old Timer Tavern claim district tournaments

The South 6th Street Softball Complex recently wrapped up district tournament play with the 14-Inch District Tournament held Saturday and Sunday in Marshalltown.

Synergy went 7-1 over the weekend to claim championship honors, defeating Isotopes (4-2) in both the championship game and the ‘if necessary’ rematch. Synergy racked up wins over Wicked and Reign before falling to the Isotopes, only to defeat Jax, Reign and Blitzkrieg to get its rematch with Isotopes.

Isotopes won four straight against Abrahams, Fowl Balls, Synergy and Blitzkrieg before suffering consecutive defeats to Synergy to settle for second place. Third went to Blitzkrieg and in fourth place was Reign.

The 14-Inch State Tournament will be held Aug. 16-18 in West Des Moines.

Old Timer Tavern collected its fourth straight district title in 16-Inch play with a 6-1 record during the July 13 district tournament in Marshalltown. The only loss for Old Timer Tavern came against Jacked in the winner’s bracket final, 7-4, but Old Timer came back through the losers’ bracket to defeat Jacked twice in the double-elimination tournament.

Behind Old Timer Tavern and Jacked were Emil’s Hideaway and Isotopes.

The South 6th Street Softball Complex will host the 16-Inch Major State Tournament Friday through Sunday, while the 16-Inch A/B State Tournament will be held in Cedar Rapids this weekend as well.
