More than 30 campers put on a show in New Providence

A great time was had by 34 campers, four high school helpers and a team of three professional actors from the Old Creamery Theater Company of Amana during the seventh annual Camp Creamery held at the New Providence Roundhouse recently.

Lizzie Rainville (Queen Genevieve), Jeff Haffner (Merlin) and Katie Colletta (Ticklefeather), led the weeklong drama camp where campers prepared and performed an original musical, “Merlin’s Apprentice and the Deadly Dragon.”

The campers ranged in age from 6-14, and each small group had a backstage manager with high school speech experience. The actors were provided housing in Tall Oaks Lodge at Camp Quaker Heights during their stay, with additional sponsorship through Renewal Community, Inc., Monday Morning Breakfast Group, the Roundhouse Players and continuing matching funds provided by the Murray Family.

The purpose of holding Camp Creamery is to make the drama experience available to rural Iowa children for a very reasonable cost each year. A similar camp will be offered next summer in July and new campers are always welcome.
