Local acts ready for Iowa State Fair stage

While performing at the Iowa State Fair is exciting enough, two local acts will find it twice as exciting this month.

The gospel musical quartet Press On and the rap/R&B singer DJ Legendary will each perform twice at the fair this year.

Press On sings at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 13 on the Budweiser Stage. Press On includes Marshalltown residents Sherwood Lundgren, Tom Weis, Mike Miltenberger and Steve Campbell.

“We’ve always enjoyed performing and sharing our gospel through music,” Lundgren said. “It’s nice to meet different people.”

DJ Legendary, of Marshalltown, will perform at noon Aug. 14 at the Fairview Stage and at 10 a.m. Aug. 16 on the Budweiser Stage. DJ Legendary performed for the first time at the fair last year and is excited to get two times on stage this year.

“The state fair is good for me,” DJ Legendary said. “It’s a good atmosphere and I like the people. The crowd is great at the state fair.”

Other local performers at the fair this year include the dance group Cornflake Cloggers at noon Aug. 9, the 5 for 1 band at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and the Marshall County Hangmen Band at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 17.

The cloggers are a dance group, the Marshall County Hangmen play rock music and 5 for 1 (Five voices for one God) is a local singing group that made its state fair debut last year.

All of these acts are on the free stages with a paid admission to the fair.
