Clutch bat of Clement nets him player of week honor

On the day when he was named the Batavia Downs Racetrack and Gaming Player of the Week, former Marshalltown Bobcat Jeff Clement stayed hot with another three-hit performance.

Clement’s 3-for-4 day at the plate helped the Rochester Red Wings dump the Durham Bulls, 4-2, during a battle of first-place teams.

Clement hit .272 last week with a homer and seven RBIs. He virtually locked up player of the week honors Saturday. In a win over Syracuse, Clement hit a game-tying grand slam in the 10th inning and then sent his team to victory with a walk-off RBI double in the 12th.

Clement’s batting average jumped six points after going 3-for-4 Monday against the Bulls (73-44). He hit his 17th double and drove in his 57th run in the win.

His batting average sets at .214 and he has 14 homers and 57 RBIs for the Minnesota Twins’ Triple-A affiliate.
