Women’s group helps new mothers

As if bringing a new life into the world wasn’t enough joy, some new mothers got an unexpected boost for their babies Wednesday.

The Women of the Moose organization in Marshalltown visited two locations, including the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Women’s Care Center, delivering gift bags of stuffed animals, baby wipes, diapers, handmade bibs and other items.

“This is part of our 100-year celebration,” said Brandy Stidham, senior regent with the Women of the Moose. “We do it to help our kids. That’s what we’re here for.”

Hayzel Acevedo, of Toledo, was in the care center Wednesday after giving birth to her daughter Ezra Monday. She was appreciative of the gift bag.

“It’s really generous,” Acevedo said. “It’s nice that people do stuff like that still.”

Theresa Sheer, director of the Women’s Care Center, also thanked the Women of the Moose.

“It’s wonderful and generous,” Sheer said. “It’s a great organization and they are doing this for a great cause.”

The group gave out four gift bags at MMSC and then had plans to deliver more at the Stork’s Nest later in the day. They will also mail a package to the Baby Village located in Mooseheart, Ill.
