Cyclone volleyball polled second by Big 12 coaches
DALLAS – The Iowa State volleyball team has been tabbed second in the Big 12 Conference preseason coaches poll, the league announced Monday.
Defending NCAA champion Texas was the unanimous top pick in the poll, which prohibits coaches from selecting their own program. The Longhorns received eight first-place votes for the maximum 64 points in the poll.
Iowa State garnered the only other No. 1 vote, finishing with 55 points in the poll to be placed ahead of Kansas (51) and Kansas State (41).
This marks the fifth consecutive year the Cyclones have slotted into the preseason top 3 in the Big 12 coaches poll. Last year’s NCAA regional semifinal appearance was Iowa State’s fifth in the last six seasons.
Iowa State’s Mackenzie Bigbee, Kristen Hahn and Victoria Hurtt each were named to the Big 12 Preseason Team on Tuesday, including unanimous selections for Hahn and Hurtt.
The Cyclones went 22-8 overall last season with a 13-3 conference mark. The team will hold its annual Cardinal and Gold Scrimmage on Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum, and the season begins on Aug. 30 at the UND Classic in Grand Forks, N.D.
