Hawkeyes to host Irish in Big Ten/ACC Challenge
The Iowa men’s basketball team will square off with Iowa State’s NCAA tournament second-round foe Notre Dame in the 15th annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
The Hawkeyes play in one of five games on tap Dec. 3 and their home game with the Fighting Irish will be televised on ESPN2 at 8:15 p.m. Iowa is one of eight squads involved in the Challenge that are ranked in the ESPN.com early preseason top 25 – holding the final spot in the poll.
Other ranked Challenge teams include No. 3 Michigan State, No. 6 Duke, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 9 Syracuse, No. 10 Michigan, No. 12 North Carolina and No. 20 Indiana.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combined to televise all 12 games of the two-day event in a battle for conference supremacy and the Commissioners Cup.
The ACC and Big Ten split last year’s Challenge with six wins each. The ACC holds a 10-3-1 Challenge record, winning the first 10 events.
