Victor A. Hubert
Victor A. Hubert, 56, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Salix, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 surrounded by his family at the home of his mother, Dorothy, in Salix.
A memorial mass will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix with Father Patrick O’Kane, celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salix. Visitation with family present will be held 1:00 P.M. 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Vic was born January 24, 1957, the son of Albert and Dorothy (Parker) Hubert. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Salix. He graduated from Westwood Community School, attended Iowa State University, and graduated from Western Iowa Tech with a degree in Energy Management. Vic, who answered to the name “Wheat” in his younger days, was the quarterback for the Westwood Rebels and received the honor of first team, all-conference in his senior year.
Vic worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad before being employed by the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. He retired last year as Plant Operations Manager after 23 years of employment at the Iowa Veterans Home.
He enjoyed his car collection and working on numerous projects, many of which were left unfinished, but the light of his life was his daughter Lexi, of whom he was so proud. His plan was to restore his ’63 Chevy, his first car, to give Lexi on her 16th birthday.
His family always appreciated his quick wit, humor, and compassion. Vic loved family gatherings, especially time spent camping during Yankton Riverboat Days.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Hubert, of Salix, IA; his father, Albert Hubert of Whiting, IA; his daughter, Alexis Hubert of West Des Moines, IA and her mother, Teresa Smith of West Des Moines, IA; two brothers and six sisters, Nick Hubert of Le Mars, IA, Wendell Hubert and his wife Becky of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Deborah McLarty and her husband Edwin of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Denise Hubert and her husband Lyle of Carroll, IA, Valerie Kutzler of Carroll, IA, Margaret Jenkins and her husband John of Pierce, NE; Angela Parsley of Sergeant Bluff, IA; and Michon Bakke and her husband Shawn of Carroll, IA; 19 nieces; 9 nephews; and 18 grandnieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his lifelong Salix school friends and acquaintances, his Marshalltown friends, former co-workers, and golf buddies, especially his golfing partner Kenny Harrelson, and Kenny’s family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; many aunts and uncles; his brother and sister-in-law Tony and Dawn Hubert; and a special Marshalltown couple, George and Alice VanNote, where he enjoyed many days at their farm.
