Clement clubs another HR against former team
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Jeff Clement connected for his 16th home run of the season to give the Rochester Red Wings a 6-1 lead they would eventually relinquish, falling 7-6 to the Indianapolis Indians in Friday’s International League baseball game.
Their third straight loss dropped the Red Wings a half game back of the Pawtucket Red Sox in the IL’s North Division. It looked as though Rochester was going to roll to the victory until Indianapolis scored six times in the top of the ninth inning.
Clement, who finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored, did not get the chance to bat in the bottom of the ninth for Rochester (72-62).
The Marshalltown native, who turned 30 on Wednesday, has gone 9-for-25 with five doubles, two homers and nine RBIs in six games against his former team this year. Clement played 176 games with the Indians over three seasons as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Triple-A club.
Clement, who is now hitting .220, and the Red Wings are back at it against Indianpolis with games tonight and tomorrow at Frontier Field.
