Plans underway for second annual Mason Stephens Golf Tournament

The late Mason Stephens loved playing golf.

And friends of the Le Grand teen who was tragically killed in a collision two years ago are working to keep his memory alive by staging the second annual Mason Stephens Golf Tournament at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center Sept. 14.

Proceeds will benefit the Mason Stephens Scholarship Fund.

The event is a four-person best shot and open to the first 36 entries, according to event organizer Troy Underhill of Le Grand.

Cost per team is $200, and fees are due upon registration.

A meal is included.

Registration deadline is Sept. 6, and the tournament will be held rain or shine.

The tournament is for fun and to celebrate Stephens and his love for golf.

At the time of the accident, Stephens, 16, was a student at East Marshall High School and was preparing for his junior year.

Underhill said he is involved because he and Stephens were close.

“I was like a second dad to Mason,” Underhill said. “He stayed over at our house frequently.”

Underhill said he is pleased with registrations to date.

“We have about one-half of the teams committed that played last year,” Underhill said. “I expect we will have more names to the add soon.”
