Tigers, Lake County finish in 2-all draw
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – The opening game of the Minnesota Kickoff Classic yielded the first tie of the season for the nationally ranked Marshalltown Community College men’s soccer team, as the Tigers and College of Lake County finished in a 2-all draw on Friday.
Juan Carillo accounted for both goals for the NJCAA Division I No. 15-ranked Tigers, one in each half. Carillo’s first tally came on assists from Roberto Velazquez and Jaime Agujetas 17 minutes into the match, and his goal to start the second half was assisted by John Krause.
Nine of MCC’s 14 shots went on goal, though none could break through after the end of regulation.
The Lancers (0-1-1) of Grayslake, Ill., got just five shots on goal against Tiger goalkeeper Julian Pena, who finished with three saves in the draw.
Marshalltown meets Anoka-Ramsey at 3:30 p.m. today in the Kickoff Classic. The two teams played to a 2-all tie in last year’s meeting.
