Local writer to host poetry reading
Ed Hofert has been amazed with the recent response to his poetry.
The Marshalltown writer has sold more than 100 copies of his book “Heart Whisperer” to people from throughout the country.
“It’s probably one of the most exciting things I’ve ever been a part of,” Hofert said. “I’ve gotten so much positive response.”
Hofert is taking his work to the next level by hosting a public poetry reading on Sept. 22.
There will be an informal reception from 2 to 4 p.m., the reading at 4 p.m. and a dinner to follow at the community area of Lincoln Towers, 1400 Lincoln Tower Circle in Marshalltown.
“I’m just way excited about it,” Hofert said. “I’m looking forward to meeting some of the people who have been following my work.”
Aside from the response with book sales, Hofert is also excited by the response to his Facebook page for “Heart Whisperer.” He has had people as far away as India and Germany “like” his Facebook page.
Hofert, whose work has been featured several times in the Times-Republican Poetry Corner, said it’s fun to see the varying response he gets from his poems.
“I’ve seen many different reactions from people to the same poem,” he said.
Hofert is hoping to draw enough interest from the reading to give him the impetus to publish a second poetry book.
Those interested in purchasing his first book, “Heart Whisperer,” can call Hofert at 641-485-0564. Cost of the book is $13.
