Panther RB Johnson is MVFC Player of the Week
ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Football Conference has named Northern Iowa running back David Johnson its Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Sunday.
Johnson rushed for a career-high 199 yards and matched a school record with four touchdowns as the Panthers knocked off Iowa State 28-20 on Saturday night in Ames.
Johnson’s first three TDs came on runs of 37, 9 and 27 yards, while the fourth and final score was a 29-yard catch that put UNI on top 28-20 with 13 minutes left in the game. Johnson finished with four receptions for 41 yards.
The junior from Clinton has now scored a rushing touchdown in 10 consecutive games for the Panthers. This was his ninth career 100-yard rushing game.
This is the second Player of the Week honor for Johnson, who won the same award after rushing for 130 yards and three TDs in a win over South Dakota last November.
