PREP VOLLEYBALL: Grundy Center gets out to 3-0 start

GRUNDY CENTER – The Class 2A No. 10-ranked Grundy Center volleyball team opened the season with three match victories at its home quadrangular, turning back Hudson (25-22, 22-25, 18-16), AGWSR (25-8, 25-22) and West Branch (25-22, 25-20).

Stephanie Faust led the Spartans with 27 kills and had three blocks, 27 digs and served 26-for-26 with three aces. Riley Sents served 27-for-28 with three aces and totaled 57 digs, while Katie Lindeman had 23 kills. Noel Saak contributed 13 kills and four blocks, while Kennedy Buss had 11 kills and one block.

Peyton Ralston totaled 37 assists and Alyssa Mathews had 31.

AGWSR went 0-3 on the evening, falling to West Branch (25-2, 25-14) and Hudson (25-18, 25-15). Hudson edged West Branch (25-23, 20-25, 15-12).

Grundy Center hosts Denver Thursday, while AGWSR hosts Aplington-Parkersburg.

Redhawks, Mustangs at BP

BELLE PLAINE – North Tama’s up-and-down ways continued. Following a 2-0 sweep of East Marshall, the Redhawks lost a 2-0 decision to the host Plainsmen Tuesday.

North Tama (4-3) held off East Marshall 25-11, 26-24, before falling to Belle Plaine 25-21, 25-23.

Anna Kvidera sparked the Redhawks in the opener with 16 assists, three kills and three block assists, while serving 11-of-12 with an ace. Josie Youel tacked on 10 kills and seven digs.

Youel paced the Redhawks against Belle Plaine with nine kills to go with four digs. Kvidera dished out 11 assists and Kopriva came up with seven digs.

East Marshall won its second match, defeating Valley Lutheran 25-6, 25-16.

For the night, Claire Johnson led the Mustangs with seven kills and Sam Earley had six. Ashley Allen totaled eight assists and Haley Long had seven. Madisen Hinegardner totaled 14 digs, while Kelsea Anderson had seven digs and served 27-for-28 with 10 aces.
