‘The Nutcracker Ballet’ auditions set for Sunday
At Stephens Auditorium, “The Nutcracker Ballet,” has become an annual holiday tradition for many families. Now in its 33rd year, this classic fairy tale showcases the sensational talent of more than 200 dancers from local dance studios for three performances, Dec. 14-15.
Auditions for this year’s production are scheduled for from noon to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Stephens Auditorium.
To participate in this year’s Nutcracker Ballet, dancers must be at least six years old by the performance date. All dancers must wear leotards, tights and ballet or pointe shoes. Audition registration begins at 11:15 a.m. Please arrive early to complete the necessary forms prior to audition times. Dancers should be dressed, warmed-up and ready to audition at the times listed below:
Noon to 3 p.m. – Children ages six and older. Roles include: Fritz and Friends, Clara and Friends, Indian Boys, Mother Ginger’s Children, Angels, Soldiers, Mice, Russians, Puppets and Harlequins.
3 to 3:30 p.m. – Adult dancers. Roles include: First Act Party Guests, Maids, Drosselmeyer, Mouse King, Justice Silberhaus, Frau Silberhaus and Mother Ginger.
3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ballet dancers (male and female) for pointe (P) and non-pointe (NP). These dancers must be enrolled in a dance studio and pointe dancers must be studying pointe. Roles include: Dolls (P), Flutes (P), Spanish (P), Chinese (P), Flower Soloists (P), Flowers (P), Snowflakes (P), Neapolitans (P), Dew Drop Fairy (P), Hungarians (NP), Arabians (NP), Irish (NP), Americans (NP), and the Nutcracker (NP).
The Iowa State Center (managed by SMG) is a multi-building conference and performing arts complex. The Center’s Stephens Auditorium, a 2,729-seat hall, hosts a dazzling array of international performances of music, theater and dance, as well as world-class orchestras, popular Broadway musicals, and explosive country and rock concerts. Fisher Theater seats 450 in an intimate setting, perfect for drama, dance and ISU theater productions. The Scheman Building, with 25 meeting rooms, two large lobbies and the 456-seat Benton Auditorium is a great meeting space for conferences, seminars and social events.
