Annadell Thomas was born to Vern and Goldie (Handley) Thomas on April 8, 1923 on a farm in rural Madison County. She was the oldest of four children with fond memories of attending a one-room school house and participating in 4-H. Her independent and determined spirit led her to find work for an attorney in Winterset so she could attend business college in Des Moines. Following graduation, she worked for Tri State Theaters. Lunches, shows and shopping with her girlfriends were among the highlights while living in Des Moines. While in Des Moines, she was set up on a blind date. Little did she know she had met the love of her life, Guy O. Erb. Ann and Guy dated for six months and married when he came home on surprise leave, March 12, 1944. She planned her wedding in 7 days. Their marriage was one of mutual respect and devotion. They loved being together. To their union, two daughters were born: Judith and Janice. Early years of their marriage were spent in Des Moines until moving to Marshalltown in 1949. After moving to Marshalltown, they built their home where she resided until her passing. Ann spent her time raising her family and working for Bowman and Company, an accounting firm, in Marshalltown, where she worked for 35 years, even filling in during tax season well into her 80’s. It was a job she found fulfilling and capitalized on her vibrant mind. In spite of her busy family life, Ann was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi and PEO Chapter MJ. Left a widow in her early 60’s, she threw her time and energy into her grandchildren and their activities. She enjoyed playing bridge, going to coffee, attending sorority, and PEO functions. Ann will be remembered for her independent spirit, vibrant mind, beautiful smile and loving, generous nature.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Judy (Phil) Lander, Marshalltown, Iowa and Janice (Evan) Pageler of Georgetown, Texas, her treasured grandchildren: Jennifer (David) Vawter, State Center; Amy (Murray) Williams, Des Moines; Katie (Martin) Downs, Marshalltown; Tim (Bevyn) Pageler, Round Rock, Texas; Stephen (Lisa) Pageler, Newton and 14 “little angels”, her great grandchildren: Madeline, Jake, Luke and Zach Vawter; Ryan and Nathan Williams; Rebekah, Ellie, Michael, and Maggie Downs; Tessa and Brady Pageler; and Ethan and Rachel Pageler, her brother, Gene (Mary Susan) Thomas, Orient, Iowa, and two sisters; Imogene (Orlo) Wilmeth, Des Moines, and Roberta Stoddard, Englewood, Colorado. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Guy.
