MPD, DCI conducting death investigation

The Marshalltown Police Department and Agents and Crime Scene Specialists with the Division of Criminal Investigation are conducting an investigation into the death of a Marshalltown man.

On Sunday at 4:48 a.m. the Marshalltown Police Department responded to the area of N 1st St. & W Grant St on a call of gunshots. Officers responded and checked the area and after receiving no additional complaints or finding any evidence of injury or damage the officers left the area and resumed patrol duties.

At 6:38 a.m. the Police Department received another call, this time from a female who stated that a male inside the residence at 12 W Grant St. had been shot. The responding officers upon their arrival did locate the female calling party and after entering the residence they located a deceased male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. Marshalltown Police Detectives and Crime Scene Technician were called in to begin an investigation as was the Division of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. The Marshalltown Police Department wants to reassure the public that there are No Suspects being sought in this investigation and there is no risk to public safety.

The name of the deceased is not being released until notification of the family has been completed.
