ARL’s Rummage Sale and Silent Auction slated

Sue Darling of Marshalltown will have the best of both worlds Saturday.

The Animal Rescue League volunteer will partake in her first silent auction and it will include a special item – a prized and unique watercolor portrait of a German Shepherd dog by the late Teresa Sharer Benoit.

The painting was completed in 1997 and measures 23×33 inches.

Benoit, of Marshalltown, passed away in March.

The original portrait was donated by the Sharer family and will be awarded to the high bidder during the all day silent auction held in conjunction with the fourth annual ARL rummage sale at Marshalltown’s Moose Lodge, 1516 E. Olive St.

The winning bidder will be announced Sept. 23.

“I’m excited,” Darling said. “This will be my first opportunity being involved with a silent auction and the ARL is grateful for the Sharer family’s generosity. This fundraiser is important for the ARL, just like all of our others this year.”

Darling said “everything imaginable” has been donated to the sale, but that ARL will accept donations of gently used items through Sept. 18. Furniture and large items can be brought to the Moose Lodge on Sept. 20 after 6 p.m.

A diverse selection of items will be available at the sale. Included are clothing of all sizes, appliances, holiday decorations and more.

Darling is helping organize the event with other volunteers and staff

“We need volunteers to help with loading items that have been collected at the ARL and also organizing the items at the Moose Lodge,” she said. To volunteer, contact ARL, 641-753-9046. For additional information, contact Darling at 641-691-9573.
