Art Walk returns downtown Thursday
Downtown store owners will welcome art lovers and artists this week in a special annual event.
Art Walk 2013 will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday night in downtown Marshalltown with 20 artists featured in various stores. The event is in its fifth year and has proven to be popular night out for area residents.
“People enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to see new things,” said Mary Giese, director of the Marshall County Arts and Culture Alliance. “They also get to meet the artists in person and I think that’s a neat thing.”
This year’s event chair is DyAnne Henry, owner of the downtown shop In Stitches. She said the event is a fun-filled way to explore the downtown.
“It’s a casual way to spend an evening with friends, stroll the downtown area and perhaps take home a treasure,” Henry said.
Art Walk will coincide with the final Thursday of the Downtown Farmers Market this year, which will feature a free concert by Rich Casciato. Other musicians will be spaced throughout the walk as well displaying musical talent to provide backdrop for the artistic talent on display.
New this year will be plastic human shaped figures standing approximately 3 to 4 feet outside the participating businesses in the walk. Overall, the Giese said the event helps make the downtown more lively.
“We appreciate the support the community has shown,” Giese said.
