Suspect in armed robbery remains at large
A week after a woman was robbed at gunpoint at the Marshall Town Center, one suspect remains at large.
Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said police are still trying to identify a man involved with the robbery.
A woman reported two men approached her in the mall parking lot and stole her purse at gunpoint just before noon on Sept. 25.
According to court records, the victim’s debit card was used in Marshalltown as well as several stores at Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines following the robbery. Through surveillance videos police developed suspect and vehicle descriptions.
Two suspects were arrested on Sept. 26 in connection with the robbery.
Andrew Xavier Ramirez, 22, is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B Felony, going armed with intent and possession of a firearm, both Class D felonies.
Frances Tillie Gasca, 23, is charged with identity theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, forgery, a Class D Felony, unauthorized use of a credit card, an aggravated misdemeanor and ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony.
Gasca confessed to using the stolen credit cards and said Ramirez told her he had robbed a woman at the mall and took her purse, according to court records.
Police conducted a search warrant at their home, 305 W. Linn St., where they found a black handgun and the victim’s purse hidden in the same area of the home.
During the investigation it was discovered Ramirez is a convicted felon from a prior arrest in California.
Hanken said more surveillance video is being provided to the police. Charges are pending for the male suspect who has been described as Hispanic.
