Man arrested after child calls police
A local man was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend after her son called police.
Maurice Turner, 38, was arrested at 2 a.m. Tuesday, after officers were dispatched to the 800 block of E. State St. after a call was made by a 12-year-old child saying his mother had been assaulted.
Turner allegedly got in an argument over his girlfriend’s cellphone then shoved her to the ground and struck her face. The victim had an injury around her lip area.
When Turner was placed inside the police car to be taken into custody, he began to kick in the back seat and started spitting.
Turner was charged with domestic abuse, a Class D felony, child endangerment and spitting in a police vehicle.
Man charged with arson after setting tent ablaze
A local man was charged with arson after he lit a tent on fire.
Tanner Jo Halverson, 29, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. Friday, on the 500 block of W. Linn St., when officers found him after he torched the tent.
Halverson was allegedly arguing with his ex-girlfriend because he was mad she was with someone else in the tent. He then lit the tent on fire.
The owner of the tent extinguished the fire before the fire department arrived. Once officers arrived they investigated the incident and also found Halverson was carrying brass knuckles.
Halverson was charged with first-degree arson, a Class B felony, carrying weapons and interference with official acts.
Nursing home employee arrested for taking clients’ pills
A local woman was arrested for stealing prescription pills from her patients at a local nursing home.
Vicki Sue Clark, 50, of Marshalltown, was arrested Thursday after officers served her warrant for stealing the medication in August while employed at Villa del Sol, 2401 S 2nd St.
Officers were contacted Aug. 13 by Villa del Sol administration reporting theft of prescription medication by an employee.
On Sept. 25, Clark was dismissed from her employment for allegedly possessing Vicodin and Percocet without a prescription for them. Villa del Sol contacted officers who then issued a warrant for her arrest.
She was arrested this week and charged with two counts of prohibited acts, a Class C felony.
Woman arrested for April burglary
A local woman was arrested Thursday for a burglary that occurred in April.
Kisha Kutzner, 36, was arrested for allegedly stealing property from a home on the 500 block of West Boone Street on April 14.
Residents of the home reported a PlayStation 3 and game and miscellaneous paperwork missing. The victim thought it was Kutzner who stole the items because she was staying at the house before she was asked to move.
Police said cigarette butts and empty beer containers had been left behind and were processed as evidence.
A warrant was issued on Sept. 23 after the evidence identified Kutzner as the suspect.
Kutzner was found on the 100 block of Iowa Avenue West. She was arrested for second-degree burglary, a Class C felony.

Tom and Kelcy Gabriel, of Marshalltown, are the parents of a daughter, Rylee Renae Gabriel, born at 2:21 p.m. on July 29 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames weighing 7 pounds, 7.5 ounces and measuring 21 inches in length. Welcoming Rylee home is big brother Carter. Grandparents are Jerry and Claudia Flathers, of Marshalltown, and Mark and Revae Gabriel, of Tama.

On Sunday, Jerod Stewert Frost, 407 W. Main St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
On Sept. 28, Trevor Eugene Brown, of Gilman, was arrested for forcible fondling.
On Sept. 28, Gustavo Gonzalez-Torres, 311 N. Third St., was arrested for driving under suspension, driving while barred, no driver’s license and improper brake light.
On Sept. 28, Oscar Garcia, 410 Fremont St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment of a public officer.
On Sept. 27, Nhial Bayeak Nguth, of Carroll, was arrested for failure to comply with the sex offender registry-second offense.
On Wednesday, Leonidas Michael Psomas Jr., of Newton, was arrested for failure to appear on a theft-fourth degree.
On Monday, Corderra Vashon Washington, 1401 S. Seventh Ave. #206, was arrested for driving while license is suspended.
On Monday, Shane Lee Charlton, 911 Jackson St., was arrested for public intoxication and interference with official acts.
On Sept. 27, Dionte Bryant Trimble, 304 Bromley St. Apt. #1, was arrested for probation violation.
On Sept. 27, Renae Jean Mason, of Le Grand, was arrested for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended; operation without registration, improper use of registration, no valid driver’s license and no insurance.
On Sept. 26, a car driven by Alyson Marie Bennett, of Ankeny, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Bennett car was estimated at $2,500.
