Watson’s Festival to usher in fall
STATE CENTER – Music, games, shopping, food, hayrides and the popular pumpkin decorating contest will return to downtown State Center for the 15th Annual Watson’s Fall Festival Friday.
The festival will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and will coincide with the final farmers market of the season. It is sponsored by the State Center Historical Society and the State Center Development Association.
“We try to make it bigger and better every year,” said Marcia Quick, one of the organizers of the event. “It’s kind of our closing event to all of our summer events on Main Street.”
The pumpkin decorating contest will be held inside Watson’s Grocery Store, with $25 prizes to the top finishers. The contest typically draws some creative pumpkins.
“They are interesting to look at and they are beautiful,” Quick said. “We had a girl make a dollhouse out of pumpkin last year.”
Food will be plentiful throughout the night and the homemade pie and ice cream is always a big hit at Watson’s.
West Marshall art students will display their recent work in the Jacobson Portrait Studio as part of the event. The Ed Kaizer Trio, and Ames jazz group. will provide live musical entertainment for the night. Children will be able to enjoy the bounce house and will also want to stop at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, which will be giving out carmel apples.
The night will be capped off when the West Marshall High School football team hosts East Marshall as part of the cross-county rivalry in State Center.
“You can go right from Watson’s Fall Festival and go out to the game,” Quick said.
