Woman assaults cab driver
A woman who refused to pay an $8 cab fare and then assaulted a cab driver was arrested Friday.
Melinda Jean Buffalo, 44, of Waterloo, was arrested Friday night at the Flamingo Motel, 705 Iowa Ave., after officers received a call from a Cabs of Marshalltown driver.
The cab driver had driven Buffalo, who was allegedly intoxicated, and a man to the motel when she refused to pay the $8 cab fare. When the driver asked why, she supposedly said she already paid it.
When the cab driver took out his phone to call police she allegedly slapped him across the face and knocked the phone out of his hand.
Buffalo is charged with simple assault, fifth-degree criminal mischief, fifth-degree theft, public intoxication and obstructing emergency communications.
The assault caused no injuries but the driver’s phone had minor damages.
Marshall County Courthouse
Jacob Lawrence Hansen, 704 W. Olive St., made an initial appearance on three counts of probation violation. Hansen was released with supervision and is to report to the Bridges of Iowa program today. A probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court as its docket permits.
Sonia Marie Hernandez, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a harassment-third degree charge. She pleaded not guilty. The court appointed Amy Marquess as counsel. A pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Nov. 29 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $300 cash. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.
Trinity Rosales, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 25. Rosales was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.
Brenda Avalos, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a dog at large-second offense charge and a failure to provide a rabies vaccination charge. She pleaded guilty to both charges. On the dog at large-second offense charge the fine was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195. The fine on the rabies vaccination charge was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. Both charges are due in full within 30 days of today’s date.
Marshalltown Police Department
On Saturday, Dorothy Theophilus, 606 N. 16th St., reported the theft of a Forest River enclosed trailer from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $2,000.
On Friday, Mark Shipley, 510 W. Linn St., reported a burned tent at 506 W. Linn St. Estimated value of damage was $150.
On Friday, a person associated with the Union Pacific Railroad, of Des Moines, reported the theft of a Simpson TS111 tester and case. Estimated value of loss was $1,000.
On Friday, Carol Beard, of Knoxville, Ark., reported hit and run damage to a 2000 Mazda van while parked at 2413 S. Center St. Estimated value of damage was $250.
On Sept. 25, Jerry Duane Waltemeyer, of State Center, reported damage to a walk-in door at 512 May St. Estimated value of damage was $100.
On Saturday, Daniel Ceniceros, 1118 May St., was arrested for public intoxication.
On Saturday, Michael Matthew Roy Martinez, 111 N. 15th St., was arrested for theft-second degree.
On Saturday, Eduardo Luis Soto, 112 N. 14th St., was arrested for theft-second degree.
On Saturday, Jake William Waterhouse, of Cambridge, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana.

On Friday, Kimberly Kay Wall, 209 N. 19th St., was arrested for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
On Friday, Tanner Joe Halverson, 107 W. Nevada St., was arrested for arson-first degree, carrying weapons and interference with official acts.
On Sept. 30, Hussein Muwonge, 5 S. Sixth St., was arrested for theft-third degree.
On Aug. 21, Linda Christine Mancina, 2843 270th St., was arrested for theft-second degree.
On Oct. 4, a vehicle driven by Leonard Sheldon Albright, of Tama, was southbound driving in the Walmart parking lot area toward the main east-west roadway when it attempted to turn east and collided with a car driven by Van Lal Par, 312 N. Second Ave., which was traveling through the lot in front of Legends on the main roadway toward Walmart. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Albright vehicle was estimated at $1,750 while the Par car received an estimated $500 in damage.
On Friday, a car driven by Kimberly Kay Wall, 209 N. 19th St., was eastbound on West Boone Street when it went out of control and struck a parking sign owned by the City of Marshalltown in front of 810 W. Boone St., and left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Wall car was estimated at $3,000 while the parking sign received an estimated $250 in damage.
On Friday, a motorcycle driven by Douglas Michael Kurth, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #97, was northbound on South 12th Street when it attempted to pass on the left side a car driven by Jane Ann Meyer, 8 W. Olive St., at the time the Meyer car was making a left hand turn onto Rolling Meadows Road and the two collided. Kurth was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with injuries. Kurth was cited for failure to have a valid license or permit to operate a motor vehicle and no insurance. Damage to the Kurth motorcycle was estimated at $3,500 while the Meyer car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.
On Friday, a car driven by Tanya Eileen Penning, of Cedar Falls, was southbound on Highway 14 on the inside lane when it struck a deer that entered from the east side of the road. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Penning car was estimated at $2,500.
On Thursday, a pickup driven by Ulises Ortiz Medina, 107 N. 11th Ave., was backing out of a parking spot in front of Casey’s General Store, 916 E. Main St. Road, at the same moment a car driven by Luis Gerardo Nino, of Grinnell, was pulling into the parking spot to the left of the Ortiz Medina pickup and the two collided. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ortiz Medina pickup was estimated at $3,000 while the Nino car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.
On Sept. 27, a car driven by Damein Lee Bown, 407 W. Main St., was eastbound on State Street approaching the intersection with Center Street when it went through the stop sign and collided with a car driven by Ronald Edward Monk, 104 Marion St., which was traveling south on Center Street. No injuries were reported. Bown was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.
Grundy County Sheriff
On Saturday, Christian Kelsey, age 18, of Gladbrook, was arrested on 270th Street east of U Avenue for public intoxication-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.
On Saturday, Clay Clubine, age 19, of Conrad, was arrested in Conrad and charged with public intoxication-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.
On Thursday, Vicki Clark, age 50, of Grundy Center, was arrested in the sheriff’s office on Marshall County warrants charging her with prohibited acts for controlled substance and theft-fifth degree. She was released to Marshall County authorities.
On Thursday, Jeffrey Flowers, age 41, of Garwin, was arrested on 310th Street east of M Avenue on a Marshalltown Police Department warrant charging him with theft-fifth degree. He was released to Marshall County authorities.
On Sept. 30, Douglas Clark, age 48, of Grundy Center, was arrested in the sheriff’s office and charged with domestic abuse assault and obstructing emergency communications. He was released on promise to appear.
On Sept. 29, Jack Brandt, age 56, of Reinbeck, was arrested on W Avenue south of 220th Street and charged with public intoxication-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.
On Sept. 27, Derrick Taylor, age 25, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center on a Grundy County warrant charging him with fraudulent use of a credit card. He is being held in lieu of bond.
On Sept. 26, Noah Sanderson, age 33, of Conrad, was arrested in Conrad and charged public intoxication-second offense. He is being held in lieu of bond.
On Sept. 24, Elacqua Kiana, age 22, of Eldora, was arrested in Morrison and charged with violation of a no-contact order. Kiana was released on promise to appear.
On Sept. 24, Zachary Nickel, age 25, of Traer, was arrested in Morrison and charged with violation of a no-contact order. Nickel is being held in lieu of bond.
On Sept. 23, Henry Segovia, age 31, of Conrad, was arrested in Conrad and charged with violation of a protective order and harboring a runaway. He is being held in lieu of bond.
On Sunday, Sept. 22, Drew Janssen, age 32, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center and charged with domestic abuse assault and disorderly conduct. He posted bond and was released.
