SPORTS SHORTS: Tiger harriers compete at Eagle Grove
EAGLE GROVE – Led by top-10 finishes from its top runners, the South Hardin cross country teams competed in the Eagle Grove Invitational on Tuesday night.
The Tiger girls, slotted 11th in Class 2A in Wednesday’s edition of the Iowa Association of Track Coaches ratings, placed fourth with 125 points behind a trio of higher-ranked teams. Class 2A No. 5 Gilbert won with 38 points, followed by 3A No. 5 Spencer (56) and 3A No. 8 Humboldt (63) in the nine-team meet.
Claire Damon, rated 14th in 2A individually, led South Hardin’s girls with a ninth-place finish in a time of 16 minutes, 40 seconds. Miquela Teske took 18th in 17:15, while Megan Carr came in 22nd (17:22) and Lydia Rose was 27th (17:30).
Tim Rose, rated 19th, led South Hardin’s boys with an eighth-place finish in 17:03. The Tigers, however, took eighth out of nine teams with 180 points. Class 3A No. 4 Algona edged 2A No. 3 Gilbert for the team title, 57-60.
Behind Rose, Zac Farrell finished 25th for the Tigers in 18:24. Micah Dorow was next to cross the finish line, placing 43rd in 19:37, and Logan Roling was 48th (20:18).
Legion holding 4-person best shot
The American Legion Golf Course will be holding a four-person best shot tournament on Sunday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start for interested teams.
Cost is $25 per person, and teams should call the Legion pro shop at (641) 752-1834) to register immediately.
