Bobcat girls march to title at Ewing Classic

DES MOINES – Placing all five scoring runners in the top seven, the Marshalltown girls’ cross country team ran away with the title in the Scarlet Classic at Ewing Park Thursday.

Marshalltown totaled 23 points, Ottumwa took second (51) and Class 2A No. 13 ranked North Polk (68) was third out of six teams.

Rachel Blagg topped the field of 40 runners in 16 minutes, 44 seconds – 31 seconds ahead of Ottumwa’s Daylin Latham.

Michaela Huey (17:28) and Wynn Tan (17:32) claimed fourth and fifth for the Bobcats, while Ellyn Boland (18:02) and Ashley Macbeth (18:09) grabbed the next two spots to complete the team tally.

Abby Snyder (18:26) and Victoria Jones (18:43) also represented MHS in 11th and 13th respectively.

The Bobcats will compete in the Central Iowa Conference meet Oct. 17 at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course in Ames. Races start at 5 p.m.
