Melbourne man sentenced in voter fraud case
A Melbourne man was sentenced in a Marshall County voter fraud case this week.
Nickie Dean Perkins pleaded guilty to election misconduct in the first degree on Aug. 1 and was sentenced to a five year suspended sentence and two years probation on Oct. 8. Perkins is a felon and registered to vote and voted in the 2012 general election.
Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz on Friday applauded the Marshall County Attorney Jennifer Miller for her work on the case.
“I want to thank County Attorney Miller for taking election integrity seriously,” Schultz said. “Miller and DCI should be commended for their hard work.”
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation referred the case to Miller, who filed the election misconduct charges.
