Spartan volleyball takes 2nd at Oskaloosa invite

OSKALOOSA – The Class 2A No. 7-ranked Grundy Center volleyball team fell in the finals of the Oskaloosa Invitational on Saturday, dropping a 20-25, 25-21, 16-14 match with North Polk.

The Spartans (25-8) posted a 4-1 day, defeading Gilbert twice, Fairfield and Ottumwa. Grundy Center topped Gilbert both in pool play and then a second time in the bracketed semifinals, coming back for a 22-25, 25-12, 15-13 win.

No statistics were available for the Spartans, who travel to South Tama Tuesday in NICL West play.

One win for South Hardin

HAMPTON – The South Hardin volleyball team managed a win in pool play before falling to eventual champion Janesville in bracketed play at the Hampton-Dumont Tournament on Saturday.

The Tigers (10-16) topped the host Bulldogs in straight sets, losing to Roland-Story and 4A No. 6 Charles City. Janesville, ranked No. 2 in 1A, swept the Tigers 25-12, 25-13, to end their day.

South Hardin hosts GMG on Monday.

Cougars 0-4 at Hudson

HUDSON – AGWSR went 0-4 at the Hudson Tournament as the Cougars (7-22) were defeated by 2A No. 15 Iowa Valley, 3A No. 11 Center Point-Urbana, Kee and the host Pirates.

AGWSR entertains BCLUW Tuesday night.
