South Hardin girls score team title at Union Invite
LA PORTE CITY – Picking up some momentum heading into the conference meet, the Class 2A No. 11 ranked South Hardin girls cross country team captured a team title with 85 points at the Union Invite at La Porte City Golf Course Tuesday.
East Marshall was 17 points back in second, while Class 1A No. 14 Denver (111), Hudson (115) and North Tama (130) completed the top five out of 13 squads. BCLUW was seventh with a tally of 148, while Grundy Center (239) took 10th.
The Redhawks’ Abi Watson, rated ninth in Class 1A, set the pace in a winning time of 14 minutes, 57 seconds. East Marshall’s Haley Fye, 17th in 2A, was runner-up in 15:13.
Claire Damon, rated 16th in 2A, led the Tigers with a fourth-place tally of 15:15 – 4 seconds behind Hudson’s Amanda Cartney. Miquela Teske was one position out of the top-10 in 15:43, Megan Carr claimed 14th in 15:51 and Lydia Rose (16:02) was 16th. Kylee Zoske (17:22) completed the quintet in 40th.
Kristen Amendt was the Mustangs’ No. 2, finishing seventh in 15:32. Bobbi Amendt claimed 13th (15:49) and Carrington Curphy (29th, 16:54) rounded out the team score.
Becca Steckelberg’s eighth-place finish of 15:36 led BCLUW, while Amelia Tonner was six seconds back in 10th. Jenna Willett came through in 19th at 16:08.
Grundy Center’s tandem of Hannah Stumberg (16:03) and Tiana Saak (16:08), led the Spartans in 17th and 18th respectively. Close on their heels was Nicole Adair, who powered Gladbrook-Reinbeck at 16:09 to grab 20th. Natalie Smith represented GMG in 67th at 18:09.
