Armed robbery material witness in custody

A man was taken into custody Wednesday as a material witness in a September armed robbery outside of the Marshall Town Center.

Jose Enrique Morales, 18, of Marshalltown, was taken from his home to the Marshalltown Police Department for questioning.

Morales is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail without bond.

After the arrest, officers executed a search warrant at his house and found evidence connected to the robbery investigation, said Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department.

Just before noon Sept. 26, a woman reported two men approached her in the mall parking lot outside of Younkers and stole her purse at gunpoint.

Since then, two others were arrested related to the robbery.

Andrew Xavier Ramirez, 22, is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B Felony, going armed with intent and possession of a firearm, both Class D felonies.

Frances Tillie Gasca, 23, is charged with identity theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, forgery, a Class D Felony, unauthorized use of a credit card, an aggravated misdemeanor and ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony.

The case remains under investigation by the Marshalltown Police Department.
