Hypnotist returns to MCC Tuesday
Hypnotist Jim Wand has been doing an annual show for 28 years at Marshalltown Community College.
He said he is able to keep his show fresh each year, which is why he continues to be asked back.
“I deliver new material and new shows all the time,” Wand said.
Wand will perform a free show open to the public at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Student Union at MCC.
Several people from the audience will be hypnotized that night. While it can be entertaining, Wand also wants people to know the benefits of self-hypnosis.
“It’s entertaining but at the same time educational,” Wand said.
Wand himself lost 65 pounds on self-hypnosis, which is how he got into the field.
Wand said he does 200 shows a year with college campuses being his main venue. He has stayed in the field because he loves the people he meets and impact he has.
“You are having fun, you are educating and you are pulling the community together,” Wand said.
Chris Brees, coordinator of student engagement at MCC, said students and staff look forward to Wand’s performance every year.
“This is usually one of our bigger events of the year,” Brees said.
