Often when there are technology questions it seems the youth have many of the answers. A partnership of the Marshalltown Public Library and the Marshalltown High School Information Technology Adventures Club allows for the public to access these answers.
The first tech help session led by MHS students was held Wednesday in the library’s cafe.
Katie Fink, reference services librarian, said they often get technology questions from the public and this is way to meet those needs.
“We thought it would be a great opportunity for us to help,” Fink said.
The students welcome community members to bring in their tablet, eReader, smartphone, computer or other type of mobile technology for assistance. The service is free.
Collin Krukow, 15, a sophomore at MHS, said he liked the idea of being able to help the public and it also adds to community service hours required by students for the club.
“I think it’s important to know how technology works in this day and age,” Krukow said.
His first “customer” was Linda Eggleston, who was looking for help with her Kindle Fire.
“I think it’s great,” Eggleston said of the new program.
The help sessions will continue from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the library cafe through December. They will not be held during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. To set up an appointment, call the library at 754-5738, extension 4. Walk-ins are welcome.
