SPORTS SHORT: Bobcat JV swimmers fourth at CIC

PLEASANT HILL – Megan McHenry’s fourth-place finish in the diving competition served as the top result for the Marshalltown junior varsity swim team, which finished fourth out of seven teams at the Central Iowa Conference meet Monday at Southeast Polk High School.

McHenry scored 139.35 over six dives to place fourth, while teammate Kelbryn VanGundy took sixth with 136.55. Allison Reeder tallied 117.75 for 10th.

Marshalltown’s 400-yard freestyle relay finished in fifth, as Mikayla Wymore, Niccole Wolken, Lexi McKown and Morgan Van Staalduine combined for a time of 4 minutes, 37.13 seconds.

Van Staalduine tabbed two sixth-place finishes on her own, clocking 2:44.43 in the 200 individual medley and 1:24.27 in the 100 breaststroke. She also joined with Wolken, McKown and Macy Goecke for sixth in the 200 medley relay.

Ames won a close race over Waukee, 487-465, for the conference crown. Ankeny was third at 340. The Bobcats totaled 253 points for fourth place, finishing ahead of Fort Dodge (164), Mason City (112) and Southeast Polk (94).
