Tallcorn comes closer to completion

CommonBond Communities plans on having residents and commercial development in the Tallcorn Towers by Feb. 1.

“That project is moving along very well,” said Michelle Spohnheimer, Housing and Community Development director. “They’re moving and working hard and constantly at it.”

CommonBond, based in St. Paul, Minn., will have representatives at the Marshalltown Public Library from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday taking applications for residential and commercial space.

“They’ll have staff there to meet with folks,” Spohnheimer said. “The best thing is to show up on one of these dates if you have interest and they’re hoping to get everybody ready to go so they have occupancy starting in February.”

CommonBond is planning a tentative tour for the public or anyone interested in December. Spohnheimer said she will have more information about the tour at a later time.

The $10 million renovation makes way for 49 one and two-bedroom apartments for low income families as well as some commercial space. Construction began in April.
