Kevin Janssen established legacy of trust, commitment

Pam Janssen and staff at Pentz Appliance & TV in Marshalltown work every day to make sure the late Kevin Janssen’s legacy lives on.

And that is a legacy built on trust and commitment.

Those were two values Pam will always remember about her late husband.

“We received many sympathy cards from folks who wrote that they trusted Kevin, and that is why they bought their appliances or televisions here or hired us for service,” Pam said. “And we’ll remember how he was committed to his customers. He did whatever was necessary to make sure customer’s needs were met. For example, many times he delivered or repaired appliances on Christmas Eve and holidays so that our customers would be able to take care of friends and family. He worked hard and was a good businessman.”

Kevin, 54, passed away on Sept. 6.

He and Pam were owner-operators of a downtown store which has been in business more than 50 years.

Kevin had devoted 33 years to Pentz Appliance & TV before his untimely death.

Tragically, he passed away 10 days after the store was selected as “Dealer of the Year” for Iowa and Minnesota by BrandSource, a national buying group who works on behalf of small retailers.

The Janssens were presented the award at the 2013 Brand Source convention in Las Vegas.

Fifteen dealers from regions throughout the United States were chosen from among BrandSource’s 4,000 members and principals.

Stores earn the award based on community service, integrity, service and sales volume among other factors.

“The award meant much to Kevin and I and our employees,” Pam said. “We were honored and humbled to have been selected from a group of deserving stores.”
