Iowa Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame band comes to Marshalltown

Bob Dorr and the Blue Band is playing free of cover charge from 7:30-11 p.m. Nov. 9 at Jake’s Game Room, 207 E. Main St.

Bob Dorr and the Blue Band is a blues group that has been around for 32 years. In 2000 they were inducted to the Iowa Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. The band has eight members. The bass player is Doug Norton, a Marshalltown native.

“I’ve been anxious to play in Marshalltown for a long time,” Norton said. “I’m the first guy in Blue Band history to be from Marshalltown and they’ve had people from all over the state.”

Norton joined the band on Valentine’s Day. Since then he has been busy playing in venues across Iowa.

“I was born and raised in this town so I know a lot of people and a lot of people have seen me in different bands,” Norton said. “This I would say would be different than anything before. The opportunity to be with the blue band has presented really cool things like playing at the Iowa State Fair for really huge crowds.”

Norton said the audience of the band is multi-generational.

“Any age that could be in a bar could enjoy it,” Norton said. “Jake’s isn’t that big of a place and I don’t think it would be that big of a problem filling the place.”

Bob Jacobson, owner of Jake’s Game Room, said it has been seven years since the band has played in Marshalltown.

“They are one of the best bands in Iowa,” Jacobson said. “I just decided to get them here again to give a little bit of high class entertainment to Marshalltown.”
