Panther gridders pegged for MVFC weekly honors
ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Football Conference recognized a pair of Panthers for their roles in Northern Iowa’s first league win of the season.
Senior placekicker Tyler Sievertsen and junior quarterback Brion Carnes were named Special Teams Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, as announced Sunday by the MVFC.
Sievertsen was 3-for-3 kicking field goals in Saturday’s 22-20 win over Youngstown State, including a game-winning 34-yarder as time expired. He also was successful from 49 and 37 yards, and currently stands seventh on UNI’s all-time scoring list with 292 career points.
Carnes, making his Panther debut, finished 18-for-30 passing for 219 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also led the team with 65 rushing yards.
Northern Iowa (5-5, 1-5) plays its final road game on Saturday, going to Missouri State for a 1 p.m. contest.
