Area harriers help team to Senior All-Star win
ANKENY – Extending their final cross country seasons one more race, South Hardin’s Tim Rose and BCLUW’s Cole Silver and Derek Coulter came out on top.
The trio helped the Northeast team win the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Senior All-Star meet at the Des Moines Area Community College campus Saturday.
Rose finished the 5-kilometer race in a time of 17 minutes, 22 seconds to place 14th overall and represented the final scoring runner for the Northeast squad, which tallied a winning total of 35 to edge the Northwest unit by five points. Southeast (59) was third and Southwest (111) rounded out the field.
Silver reached the finish in 17:41 to grab 16th, while Coulter took 40th in 18:26. The Northeast team placed three in the top five including champion Michael Melchert of Monticello (16:11) and runner-up Eli Kaczinski of Northeast (16:15).
South Tama County’s Taylor Ellenbecker represented the Northeast squad in the girls race, which finished a distant second with 55 points to Northwest (16). Southeast (67) was the final team in the field. The senior Trojan covered the 5K course in 23:05 to nab 43rd. Sibley-Ocheydan’s Leah Seivert topped the field in 19:11.
Colo-NESCO sophomore Steven Cutler competed in the 5K open race taking 23rd in 20:21. Pella’s Ben Warner won in 17:04.
